Our Directors

David Elworthy OBE

David has extensive security experience gained whilst working as a senior police officer and within the wider government environment. He retired as a serving police officer having spent over 20 years providing VIP protective security and planning and overseeing Tactical Firearms operations.

David subsequently spent the last 9 years working in a civilian role for the UK Home Office in Counter Terrorism. For much of that time he has worked exclusively for the UK government; designing and reviewing security operations for all of the United Kingdom’s key protected individuals including members of the Royal Family and government Ministers. David’s work in this field was recognised by HM The Queen in the 2014 New Year’s Honours with the award of an OBE for services to protective security.

David brings unique insight and the benefit of being able to draw upon a wide network of security professionals; many of them ex-colleagues and trusted sub-contractors who have proven themselves in the most sensitive and demanding circumstances.

Andy Bristow

Andy retired early from the British Army as a Brigadier after a career specialising in communications and general operational command appointments. He is a graduate of the Higher Command and Staff Course and the Royal College of Defence Studies and the recipient of a Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Service on operations.

Recent roles include National Chief of Staff for British Forces in Afghanistan, Capability Director for Information (with responsibility for all aspects of cyber operations and information security) and as an embedded specialist mentor advising senior security force commanders in the Middle East.

In 2007, Andy ghost wrote the successful Iraqi security operation "Charge of the Knights" which reclaimed Iraqi security control of south-eastern Iraq. Staff appointments include service as Military Assistant to the UK Vice Chief of Defence Staff and overseeing information services, security and business continuity during relocation of the Ministry of Defence for refurbishment and the later move of Army’s Headquarters to a new site.

Julian Clover

Julian has well proven operational leadership and management skills based on 23 years military service and 11 years commercial experience in corporate and consulting roles. He retired from the Army at the rank of Colonel having completed 4 tours of duty with UK Special Forces in command and staff roles. He supported the BBC’s global media operations as the head of their High Risk Safety team and has worked in support of UK government departments, commercial companies and third sector clients as a consultant.

Independent minded and an objective critical thinker, Julian is able to provide concrete and pragmatic solutions to complex problems. His international experience includes multiple instances of working in politically sensitive situations. He is comfortable responding to short notice operational requirements and managing long term enduring requirements. He recently delivered a capacity building project overseas to build a national level capability with supporting crisis management policy and doctrine.

Julian has previously delivered election security plans in challenging environments for the military, international organisations and the BBC. All of these tasks required the provision of specific and tailored risk analysis, operational plans and contingencies. Amongst a number of capacity building projects he has delivered close protection training to a head of state’s security team to provide enabling security to the principal.

Security Reviews

PSDC offer detailed security reviews of your business, residential or commercial property. We have spent many years reviewing security at some of the most prestigious and famous properties in the country. Business Continuity

As you rely more and more on technology and systems, you and your business become increasingly vulnerable to the impact of them not being available for one reason or another. This might be for reasons as simple as having to re-locate from your normal business premises. PSDC offer a full assessment of your critical dependencies and will propose ways in which the effects can be minimised and impact mitigated. We have extensive experience working with the private security industry and can also inspect and work with your existing security provider to ensure that the service they offer is appropriate and commensurate with the identified threat and risk. PSDC also offers ‘red team testing’ services – the deployment of trained staff to test either specific aspects or general areas of your security services. Using staff with experience of security provision we can evaluate the current effectiveness of your security measures either covertly or with the knowledge and support of your existing provider. Risk Assessment

Understanding the risks you face is the key to understanding the most appropriate security measures that should be deployed to protect you. The industry uses a common methodology to understand risk, including identification of the threat (burglary, theft, commercial espionage, terrorism etc), assessing the vulnerabilities (weaknesses in you existing security) and the likelihood of being targeted (nationally known individual of high worth). We have unique expertise in assessing risk on highly prominent individuals and following that the development of appropriate control measures to mitigate that risk. PSDC offer a full risk assessment service, working with you or your staff to identify the threat and vulnerabilities and then propose the most appropriate measures to reduce that risk. Physical Security Arrangements

Physical security measures are an essential part of all security plans for any location and must achieve three integral aspects: deter, detect and defend.

Deter – the obvious deployment of security measures is a powerful deterrent for intruders seeking to gain access to any location. These can range from effective perimeter security measures (fences, gates, access control measures, perimeter lighting and perimeter alarms and in some cases security guards or patrols). High levels of physical security on the premises can, of course, slow or prevent any access allowing you valuable time to respond.

Detect – The ability to detect intrusion if unwanted access to a location has been achieved will give time to react and respond appropriately to any threat. Detection measures can include overt or covert alarms systems, CCTV and security patrols.

Defeat – The most important aspect of security provision. A combination of all elements of detect and deter which prevent the intruder from achieving his aims; either by denying access completely or by detecting and slowing progress sufficiently to allow you to take appropriate measures to ensure your safety. This may include, in the case of personal protection, allowing you time to take up occupation in a safe room which will protect you for an extended period permitting time for the arrival of emergency services or response teams.

We have many years of experience developing security plans for businesses and individuals which overlay all of these functions. PSDC have access to industry leaders in the provision of all technical aspects of security including providing state of the art technology which can be tailored for your specific security requirements. Close Protection Operations

Whilst protection is the paramount requirement of any CP role, co-ordination of the security requirements into a principal’s lifestyle and requirements are the most difficult element of the activity to achieve. A Close Protection officer needs to fit naturally and unobtrusively into the background of a principal’s life whilst ensuring that they remain secure at all times. PSDC can work with you to ensure that the Close Protection deployed is specific and appropriate to the risk, whether this is a full or part time commitment. Contact us to see how we can help.

Cyber and Data Security

Our staff can review your electronic and data security to ensure the highest levels of information security and to protect you online. PSDC also have access to trained search staff who can conduct electronic sweeps to check your premises for electronic surveillance devices. Contact us to see how we can help.

Event Security

An essential part of any high value event, PSDC work closely with colleagues highly experienced in the provision of high end event security staff. We use only experienced former protection trained staff who understand the specific requirements of your event and can be relied upon to ensure absolute privacy and confidentiality in a manner that reflects the standards such events demand. PSDC will work with you to ensure that all aspects of security for your event including invitation management, access control, identification, media control and of course incident response are dealt with appropriately and efficiently. Contact us to see how we can help.

Safe Rooms

Very common in many parts of the world, safe rooms are a regular aspect of the highest level of security measures. Ranging from a ‘safer room’ – one which is carefully selected in a particular location and hardened with improved locks and security measures providing time for you to summon assistance to a full ‘safe room’ with steel hardened walls, floors and ceilings equipped with secure communication, its own air supply and provisions providing an impregnable fortress for a principal to wait securely for the arrival of the emergency services or assistance. PSDC works with industry experts to design bespoke measures specific to the threat and risk to ensure that you have peace of mind knowing that you have access to a secure refuge within your property to protect you and your family.
